    New scope

Just wanting some first hand advice/knowledge on a new scope for my new 280ai.

There are just to many scopes to choose from and unfortunately I can’t just go and test everyone of them out for clarity/ low light clarity.

Have been looking into the Leupold vx-5hd 3-15x44 $1900 probably my top pick but I really do not want to spend that much $ on a scope. + 3-18 zoom would be a better range like the vx-6hd has, but they are definitely to expensive 😂

Also been told the Burris signature HD are supposed to be great value? Looking into the 5-25x50 $1400 which seems like a great price for the quality of scope you’re getting?

Have seen a second hand Burris Veracity 4-20x50 for sale retailing at $1800 I have no idea what they are like? What are peoples thoughts?

    Athlon halos?
    Meopta Optika6?
    Reviews seen pretty good?

Any suggestions to other scopes would also be appreciated

    Cheers

Buy once, cry once. The VX5 is possibly the best value for scope on the market at present. Dont get hung up on high magnification, good glass is what you need and the VX5 has bloody good glass.

The meopta optika6 is a fantastic scope, however check stats on its weight. Think its a pretty solid scope

Swarovski Z5 3.5-18x44. Should be 2kish. Clear as optics. Dial ontop. Lightweight. What more could a man ask for!

    VX-5 for sure

The enjoyment from the Leupold will continue many many years after you have forgotten what you paid for it.

I use one on a .22 and have dialled it many thousands of times and it’s still as precise as when I purchased it, very robust scope with excellent glass, you won’t be able to wear it out.

It depends on what you are looking for in a scope.

VX5 is super popular here because most people value light weight. VX5 has very good glass, one of the best, but not necessarily the best, in its price bracket. What it does have over everyone else is light weight. VX5 also has its limitations - hunting only reticles, reputedly unreliably dialing, MOA only.

Magnification is a a bit of a misleading spec. The reason is this: no one wants lower magnification, people want wider FOV. some scopes may have low magnification but still poor FOV, therefore it is pointless. On the other end, no one cares for higher magnification, they want to be able to see the target. Therefore it is entirely possible to have a 5-25 scope to have less FOV on the wide end and less resolution on the long end than a 6-24.

So yeah, you need to decide what you want the scope to do and what features you will be using before deciding which scope.

You're right, but apparently availability is near zero at present.

I have that scope on my .280 Ackley and you definitely don't need the 25X brother for deer shooting. I have the 5-25 on my 6BR bunny gun and can definitely use the top end for that.

VX5HD, havnt looked back since. Super reliable dialling. Love the Zero lock. Also, there is a MIL option, not just MOA.
