    Next Caliber decisions

Nutting out what caliber rifle i want to purchase next..

I want an allrounder. A centrefire rifle that will shoot Thar 'on that peak way the fuck over there( in the eye!)' and a Deer that i snuck up right next to in the Catlins thick shit.
As i'm not a rich man so it will be replacing my current .270 with a ?????? and joining my bunny buster and duck deliverer in my old school locker..

    My thoughts....

    7mm RM
    7mm SAUM
    300 WM
    300 WSM

    your thoughts....?

I will most likely get the action trued and get someone on here to bung a muzzle brake on it when the time comes.

    or

what non Magnum caliber could do similar devastating damage at long distance but not burn a whole in my pocket with each shot.

    30-06??

I'm not Loading myself atm but intend to make the investment after i have my 'once in a lifetime' death machine soo yeah.. hmmm.

It will also come down to availabilty in Left Handed actions off the shelf too, I dont want to be fluffing around paying someone to customize that side of things.

    Cheers

    Here we go a again......
Off your list I'd pick the 7mm rem mag, with a brake.
Id go the 7/375 light, cheap, more boom than the rem mag
Flag the trueing ya don't need that, spend the extra coin on glass.
You will get some interesting responses.

    284. Rem mag performance with a good thousand round extra barrel life.

.30/06 loaded with 208gr A max will give you fairly decent, non magnum whack down range.

How far out do you intend to shoot? If under 400 yards, just stick with the .270win? cheap enough to buy ammo if you don't want to reload, and if you do, there are a few good bullet options now with Berger, Nosler, etc.

Otherwise, the 7mm RM is hard to beat. Sure the 7mm SUAM is great too, but you are stuck with a caliber that requires you to reload for and you can't get the brass as easily, or the dies for that matter. Depending on what rifle you pick action length would be the same, e.g. Tikka, etc.

7mm saum with a 22 inch tube either on a tikka or Remington but as the others have said you may need to reload for it I am biased as that's what abe is building for me as I wanted exactly what you are after something from 5-500 metres

I've got a 7SAUM and a 7mm Rem mag, They are pretty similar in performance. I would go for a Tikka T3 in 7mm Rem mag. Put a good scope on and you will be good to 600 yds plus.

Yip cant really go wrong or go remington 700 then when you need more you can ream it out to 7-375r and gain another few hundred fps

    6.5xXX*

Honestly I would, Low recoil, Great ballistics & great selection of projectiles.

Because of the high SD you get good penetration so you don't need a huge pill. If you see a deer up close you can shoot it and its buddy behind it.

    * insert parent cartridge.

If you're not loading yourself, I'd say go for something not overly exotic (factory ammo price and availability). Which I guess would tend to lean to the 7RM?
