    Night vision acronyms

    AN/PVS - passive vision sight ?
    AN/NVS - night vision system ?
    AN/AVS - aviators night vision imaging system ?

    What is the AN/ part ?

    Is PVS always a scope i.e. tube, and AVS is helmet mounted goggles ?
