Nightforce gives you a lot more reticle choices. Its a pity the Sightron SIII Mildot reticle doesn't have 1/2 mil graduations like the Nightforce MLR. For the money the Sightron SIII with exposed turrets are pretty good but to my eyes I prefer my Nightforce. The overall build quality and "feel" is better on the Nightforce (and so it should be for what they cost). I've got a NSX 5.5-22x56 MLR and a Sightron SIII 8-32x56 Mildot/Mil. The sightron is slightly lighter. If I was after another long range targety scope I wouldn't go for a 8-32 Sightron. Where I shoot the mirage doesn't allow the use of much over 25x so would have been better with a 6-24. Due to the reticle choice I'd go with a 2nd hand Nightforce as I prefer Mil's.
If Sightron was a better scope than Nightforce you would still have a bunch of people swearing black and blue that the NF was "hands down better" and "no comparison". It's so they can justify to themselves that the extra money was worth it.
The next lot of FFP sightrons have the mildot with 1/2 hash reticle. If only they done a zero stop.
I wanted a setup that would do the job well everytime for as little money as possible, so I bought a Savage and put a Sightron 6-24x on it. From the little experience I've had with NF I don't think they are twice as good as a Sightron, I couldn't justify spending the extra money on such little improvement.
However if the Sightron wasn't available then I would have bought a NF and it would have been justified to me. NF are great scopes but as for value compared to Sightron, no way.
Thats the one dislike of my scopes. Half mil dashes would make ranging and adjustments so much more accurate.Quote:

Id like a S111 if anyone has an off cast
Shot a fake ?? Burris scope once with the 308 . It just would not keep zero and I got angry at it.
Sight it in three shots then off again... OK lets sort this out .
Me and the midget agreed it had plenty of gas in it as it took off like an air bourne torpedo... Funny as had to be there !!
Ok I'm happy to provide a suitable firearm for the "Forum Scope test"......who's going to provide the scopes so I can see what the difference is between physically shooting say a tasco vs a sightron with my 308..... anyone have a SB or the like to test as well  We will then be able to put this bullet hole through scope thing to rest!
im first so ill supply the tasco
I have a better idea, Instead of blowing up scopes I'll take em off ya hands!
The one on the .308 holds under 1inch at 100m, does what it needs to do!
Oh yeah, thats nothing major
Toby there is a Trasco 3x9 somewhere in the shed if you want it and I can find it
