Thread: Nikko Stirling Panamax Precision

Thinking of finally updating my 4x32 old vistascope on my .22. Has anyone bought a Panamax precision 4-12x40 and what are they like for rimfire or centrefire? I like the idea of the exposed turrets and ones already set up for a few different round types. Thinking if I end up liking it I may set it up on a 7mm08. Not interested in spending anything more than these go for as will only be using on my 22 in the meantime

Had one once, found the eye relief a pain to get lined up properly. The standard panamax was much nicer to use

Hah! You're onto it there mate... people seem to get pretty carried away with scopes. I'm simply looking for a wee upgrade from my ancient basic scope

Nikko-Stirlings are a solid scope. A little heavy , but sturdy , solid performers - ideal on a .22.

Scope snobbery is a real thing - but I have more than a few Nikko-Stirling scopes and and if I break one I dont have 2K tied up in it .

Try one for eye relief - you need the scope thats easy for you to use. I dont own any Leupolds because the eye relief with them just doesnt work for me . Each to their own.

nikko stirling air king is cheap and good scope as far as I've found. I've got 3 One on a 22rf one on one of the hornets and one on a 223

I got the NS Mountmaster with half mil dots 3-9x40 for my .22. Holds zero ok and have been able to ring 8" gongs at 200m with it. Was $100 well spent!

Identify your target beyond all doubt because you never miss (right?) and I'll be missed.

I use these om my rimfire as well. Dont know if they are still available or renamed/upgraded to a new model......They are better than the mountmaster versions and were slightly dearer but both were good.

We sold heaps of the AO mount masters , especially on the Toz 22s (78s and 99s) as the rings they included with them also fit the metric rails of the russian rifles. Great value scopes and very good at what they are supposed to do. The Airkings were slightly better in that they had a finer reticle and were less 'chunky'- not weight wise- if you see them side by side you will know what I mean- if you dont knwo what I mean then its not really an issue.....

Eithe way- you wont go wrong with either of these ranges of Nikko.....

Got a NS Panamax ? 3-9x HMD on Howa 223, package deal. Working rifle, doesn’t get ‘babies’ about, had around 2000 ends through rifle. Anyway has been a good scope, never lost zero, until Saturday. Got careless and rifle dropped onto sealed roadway from about a metre. Didn’t look to be rarked up so carried on with day. It’s hit the deck a few times in the bush and never had a problem. Next goat I saw was about 80m away, took the shot and clean missed. Saw dust mark away right high so thought I’d better check rifle out. Sighted scope back in and carried on. 17 goats hit the deck up till last evening at various ranges so all is good hopefully. Will check at 300m later today. Short storey is they are good value for money and if they do fail you’re not going to break the bank replacing it. In hindsight I doubt many scopes would have performed any better, even a heavy as fuck Night Force. Just my 2cw.

Yes - Nikko spot on for the hunter 22.

From owning a vast number of 22s the field rimfire scopes I rate are Simmons, Tasco, Nikko, Bushnell (Banner, Sportsman etc). All very reliable little units, easily clear enough for 0-100m 22 shooting, hold zero well, and handle the years. Bushnell now own/make both Simmons and Tasco.

Nikko has lots of models now - ideal for 22. Just pick a size, magnification range, price to suit your needs. Agree with comments above - you won't go wrong..

Yup, a mate has one of these scopes on his 22 a d is very happy with. I haven't used it myself, but have looked through it at the landscape and it looks pretty clear and bright. Good value I think.

I have an NS Airking 2-7x32 on my little badger 22, works great. I like it a bit better than my Nikon 2-7x32 as the crosshair subtensions are a bit finer.

I have the exact scope on a CZ 17hmr. It ships with 4-5 changeable turrets that allow for dial up in 22LR, 17Hmr, 22 mag , .223 and a blank turret to do whatever you want with. The turrets don't lock but once you are zeroed in and set the turrets to the range you have sighted in at you should be able to tell if they have moved. The scope is reasonably compact and not too bulky. I find the eye relief fine and the optics good enough for the money. It's no Zeiss but it is acceptable for my application.
Reticule is nice, not to thick which works well for varmint work but not so thin you struggle to find it in low light.
One area I find it struggles in is dusk and low light. It light gathering and contrast isn't great. However saying that I am using it for rabbits out to 180 mtrs right on dark. For the money overall it's good value, it's had 1000s of rounds fired while mounted to the little CZ.
Hardly dealing with big recoil but it's never moved.

As long as you keep your expectations in line with the price your paying I think you'd be happy with it plus if its new it will have a warranty, if you need it. I've only ever had one scope need a warranty claim and it was painless and not a ns....
