As discussed, Nikon has decided to discontinue the making of rifle scopes for business reasons.

    Oh well...

A little sad, but ultimately not unexpected.

Japanese optics brands have little brand power when it comes to scopes, yet their prices usually place them very close to American brands.

With camera lenses, japanese optics brands have a significant technological advantage in the electronics part, and making high qualities lenses economically. but this advantage does not exist with rifle scopes. It is hard to say a 1000 dollar nikon lens is better than a 1000 dollar bushnell or leupold.

As a result, japanese optics brands have no real competitive advantage.

The low end market is getting taken over by Chinese OEM. for the same price, Chinese OEM now make far better scope than developed countries for the same low price, say around 300~400 dollars. People are usually not keen on buying a Chinese made Japanese brand scopes. If someone buys Nikon, they want it made in Japan.

That basically squeezed the actual market for nikon to a very small piece of the pie.

They don't have many Nikon refurbs at the moment. Not compared to usual anyway. I recently bought a Nikon 3-9x40 BuckmasterII to put on the 223. It's a great scope. Way clearer and brighter than my Redfield Revolution 3-9x. I want to grab another but there are no refurbs at the moment..... The bino refurbs have been pretty scarce too

What a shame, I’ve added 2x prostaff models to my collection over the past year, good product and pricing.
Grouchy Smurf had it right all along...
