    Nitesite Optics

    Hi all

Does anybody out there have any experience with the Nitesite range? I've been following them for a couple years and think I'm going to finally get one with them being so cheap here in SA but would appreciate any opinions on them.
Looking specifically at the Nitesite Eagle.

    Cheers

tried one, didn't like it at all.
the image in darkness was quite poor. I stalked in on a hare that I could see through the scope about 30 mtrs away but with the nitesite fitted, you couldn't positively identify it as a hare!
I had it on a ruger 10-22 and even the recoil from it caused the rubber boot to move and you would loose the image in the reticule. I would hate to see what would happen if it were mounted on a centre fire rifle.
they are ridiculously expensive for what they are.

    What model did you try?
    They've since released a new line up for 2014 / 2015.
I've been doing a lot of research on them and have yet to hear a bad review like you've just given me. Thanks a lot Greg

it was mounted to the ruger 10-22 it has a vx2 3x9x40 lr mounted on it.
don't get me wrong, I really like the concept, but the product doesn't live up to my expectations.
or it would have been fitted to a deer gun for the last 6 months.

it was the eagle model I am sure, but we have all 3 models in the shop, doesn't seem to be a very big difference with the models other than the brightness of the ir light.

I'm really contemplating as whether to get one or not now. I've watched dozen of videos of them online and they all seem amazing, no problem with spotting the animal or identifying it beyond all doubt.
    Thanks a lot Greg

Since the Nitesite hit the market our sales for the Pulsar Forward front attachment have quadrupled. We sold 2 this week for deer hunting and 1 for pest control.

I never said that. I think that was Tasbay's comment. I said that the Nitesite has been good for our Pulsar Forward DFA75 / DN55 sales because their advertising has increased market awareness that there are devices available that can convert daylight scopes for night vision use.

Customers then decide if they want to stick a device on the back of their scope, and look at a screen (which lights up the face like a Christmas tree) in a heads-up position, or stick our Pulsar Forward onto the front of their scope so that they can hold their rifle normally.

Yes I`d have a crack at building your own one if youn can find the Youtube video on how to. if it dosen`t work you haven`t lost much. I have had a look at the Nightsite unit ,can`t remember wich one but wasn`t impressed. The units I supply are the higher end of the market. Just sent one to Haast for a Hunter and cray boat use and have another going to a Northland Coastguard unit at the moment.
My advise is have a good look around, spend as much as you can and get good gear first off and keep it......... same as with a rifle.

What is a pulsar forward? Could you please give a link?
I'm guessing it is the same concept but a different device?

    Thanks

Pulsar Forward fits on the front of the scope which enables the shooter to look through the scope normally. It is different to other systems because it it less dependent on IR. In quarter moon deer can be short at around 150 meters without using IR. With IR deer can be shot at 300 metres. The Pulsar Forward has a 915 nm IR which has an invisible source. I've shot rats, rabbits, hares and deer with mine.
Needs to be fitted to a scope with an objective bell of 46.7mm or more and requires a clearance of around 8mm between scope and barrel.
You still need a means of spotting, the Pulsar can be fitted with a10x monocular for hand held use, then when you spot your target, remove monocular and fit it to the bayonet mount on your scope to take the shot. One of our customers shot 7 fallow out of a herd of 8 that were raiding a farmers crop.
We have also sold quite a few Pulsar Forwards with thermal imagers. I normally use mine with a Pulsar Quantum HD thermal imager.

Whether you try to build something yourself depends on whether you want to hunt or piss around concocting something that may or may not work. The Pulsar Forward DFA75 cost around $2500. Phone me 039700570 if you want any more info. As a forum member, we will give you a discount.

Yukon Optics New Zealand and Pulsar night vision, thermal image, and daylight optics.. Night vision systems, binoculars, goggles, spotting scopes, thermal imagers, riflescopes, rifle sights, range finders. For outdoor recreation, boating, hunting, fi for more info.

PS if any of the above sounds weird it is because of my bloody predictive text on cellphone :-)
