Thought some good rifle porn was required while in lockdown , so let’s start a thread on Pre-war Oberndorf sporting rifles , I’m sure a few of you will have 1 or 2 lurking in the gun cabinet , this is a Type A in 7 x 57 , made in 1929

@Lucky Beautiful,when l semi retire in a couple of years l am going to look for something similar or a Man-Licker as a retirement present & use it on a couple of Deer properties l have near the farm.
Currently have my old Mohawk l brought for my 21st in 82, waiting in line for a Old School Man-Licker style XX walnut restock & will be in the normal hunting line up.
@Lucky what would something like that be worth currently ??
Also if anyone has something along these lines sitting locked away in a safe & is interested in selling to someone who not only appreciates them unmolested ,but will use as intended let us know :thumbsup:
Got a rarer one @Lucky a 1927 Oberndorf Kurz in .250 Savage, I got it off a Forum member who might chip in, he has another 2 tucked away, hopefully he can put photos of all 3 up.
Graham Champion has a number of similar rifles for sale.

Yep it will have a few stories. It came from a Zimbabwean farming family. I got it off tentman had some Norma solids with it. Probably took Cape buffalo and a variety of African game.

The stock on that one is Geoff Slee's "Rigby" pattern (Geoff passed to the other side some years ago). The rifle came to me as a write off, the original stock was really hacked about.
Later I sent this stock and an original to Gorden Cusen's in Tasmania, he now holds patterns for them.
Its a superb wee "mountain rifle".
I remember reading 2 dogs and a rifle by Ken Cuthbertson as a kid. He had an Orbendorf. I have always thought that they are a beautiful looking rifle.

Interesting calibre, what's it like to shoot?
Quite mild actually. The recoil is more of a slow forceful push rather than a more violent jolt. The felt recoil is less than my Mod 70 375 H&H magnum.Quote:

Interesting history on this rifle is it was owned by one of the Tisdall brothers ,they had 2 consecutive serial numbered Kurz Mausers , the other rifle may not even be in NZ anymore , but if you have a Kurz check your number against my one .

Lucky, isaw one of those as a young bloke working in western Queensland about 40 years ago. Been looking ever since. It had a Nickel 3x scope on it. Your’s is very nice.
What a stunner, do you use it?
Here is my Husqvarna 9.3 x 57.
It has a couple notches on the stock and some initials too.
I dont know anything about it except that I like it!

The Mauser Obendorf factory also made the first production run of M96’s for the Swedes. Not sure if they did commercial spotters on this action?
I have a mil spec for mil shoots.
