    ODL suppressor

Hey. I'm going to have a new rifle built once all the gear gets here. It's going to be 7SAUM.
    The barrel is a Proof @ 20" with a muzzle 0.858".
I've had a great run with DPT but am thinking something more exotic. The ODL ticks a lot of boxes for me especially being light. The length is fine. I was curious of first hand experience with the ratchet lock and if it's worth it on a hunting rifle. Also there looks to be an insertless option. The online info isn't great. Do I need an insert? How does the insert work? And really just why?
    Cheers

The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

The ratchet lock is to appeal to the US market.
Their regulations vary from state to state, but all are affected by the NFA.
In essence, all suppressors have to be licensed, and it isn't a quick, or cheap process.
As a result, swapping cans between rifles is attractive, and the ratchet lock came to be.
For NZ, probably not such a big thing.

Ratchet lock system is great for competition guns that I can torque the muzzle brake to the barrel and I don't need to worry about the suppressor losen by itself after firing multiple shots.

For hunting ones the direct thread should just works.

From my understanding the insert is a thread adapter so it matches with whatever the thread you have.

I suggest you to talk to Bert from sales@oceania-defence.com if you have any questions.

They look a great piece of kit.
Theyre supposed to run hot and not accumulate carbon and can be left on the rifle in storage - very no fuss.
Being muzzle forward, they seem best suited to a big muzzle diameter like you have and applications where you dont falll on it much.

ODL have a low profile and you might have better luck with a local retailer.

I have the same barrel with a saum and my train of thought was on the same track except "apparently" i needed the magnum odl and all of a sudden there was no weight savings, the barrel was longer and the cost was up there.
Went for a Hardy compact and it does the job perfectly at the same weight and a fraction of the cost

Because the thread is printed during the process, the adapters were offered so there were more options without having to print runs of suppressors with threads to suit every Tom dick and Harry’s desire. I wouldn’t go for a ratchet lock or any other additional contraption for a dedicated hunting rifle. Not sure the weight saving is worth it, pretty minimal really.

I’ve had my odl for a couple of years now , it’s the alpine magnum 240 grams but I honestly think the standard 180grams would have been ok with the 65prc.
I looked at the ratchet lock option but it negated the benefit of a light supp due to its weight, so I went with the screw on one.I use mine on the 65prc and a 308. I generally carry it in my pack and then screw on too shoot. My prc is doing 3000fps and the supp gets bloody hot when you string a few shots together. I brought a second hand hardy stealth that weighs about 470 grams and the noise suppression seems very similar along with the recoil absorption, it’s bloody heavy though. But is handy and robust for been in the jetboat or motorbike.
