Thread: Old decent 4x32 scope?

Anyone know anything about this scope. I can’t find a reference to it anywhere. Just want to know how it was regarded back in the day.

There are two 4 x 32 scopes in my collection with a sticker like that on them. Both were purchased 20 plus years ago and both had names I hard not heard of before and have not since. From memory neither cost more than $50 and one of them a lot less. One is a Vistascope and the other I think is a Hubertus. A good scope to put on a kids .22, which is what I used them for, but I would not put one on a .223 let alone a .308. Yours may differ.

Which sticker @grandpamac? There’s only one. The name etc is etched.

I just found out @grandpamac that it spent many years on a 7x57.

Its the yellow paper one. Mine are the same as your bar the number. Both of the stickers on my scopes (1 each) are well worn, not mint like yours. It begs the question of how much it was used on the 7mm. Perhaps the owner only hunted in fine weather. One of my scopes is on an old Winchester M69 .22 and the other is in the reserve box.

Hubertus were a german manufacture very good glass.

Flyblown, likely your scope was made by Light Optical Works. They made scopes for a lot of different brands and continue to do so today. Product was pretty good quality for the time. Better off having it come from a 7x57 than an air rifle, which is where a lot of low powered old scopes end their working days.

Had a 4x40 wide field Carton brand scope I brought brand new with my first 22 in 1987ish. It was a great scope and ended up on a 223 until I sold it. My old next door neighbor had the 3-9 version he'd got in the 90's and may still have. Good clear solid scopes

I needed a scope to go on a 30-06 had a Hubertus on a .22 whacked that on it.
It was very good had it on the rifle for 15+ years.
Never went out of zero.
From memory it wasn't that cheap to buy.

My gut feel is that back in the day this was more than a half-decent 4x scope.

The mechanicals are properly positive... click, click, click.

Optics are pretty reasonable, all things considered, damn sight better than the Chinese scope on my .22 now.

My first scope was a Vistascope....wished I'd hung onto it....this threads bringing back fond memories !

A bit more on scopes. My Vistascope was purchased new for $35.00 and the Hubertus also new for around $50.00. At the time a similar name brand scope cost upwards of $100.00. Hubertus seems to have been a German brand turning out scope mounts and some scopes. Whether they made the scopes or not who knows but some were marked Schmidt and Bender. Much later there seem to have been some Japanese made scopes carrying the same name. Mine is not marked Hubertus so I could have it mixed up in my mind with another scope but under the windage boss there are some marks that include an H in a circle so once again who knows. In any case both are clear enough and the adjustments work well. I found a couple of Hubertus scopes on the interweb but they are different to mine.

Got a Hubertus 4x32 with the yellow sticker on my stirling 14p bolt action
Been a great little scope.
Got flogged on that 22. Had a little whoops on the motorbike one day and managed to break the bolt handle off. Scope still ok.
Never fogged and never shifted.
I do suspect it's more like a 3 or 3.5x although I've never proved the point. Things are just a little bit smaller.
I reckon it would be the Asian model. Only.paid 110 bucks for the whole shebang back in 87.

The early Nikko's had the same yellow sticker, think it was the standard factory procedure out of Japan for that era.
