Old Fashioned Fun With A Slug Gun

I was in the local Gun Shop today ( in Australia ) and before I knew what was happening I bought a secondhand Air Rifle , or as we used to call them when I was a kid a “ Slug Gun “ from their Bargain bin .
    I haven’t owned a Slug Gun in maybe 40 years , so it’s back to basics .
I got home and started searching through my boxes of bits and I already have a scope ( a luxury that wasn’t even dreamed of when I was a Kid ) and mounts waiting for it when I get it home in a week or two .

I remember shooting so many tin cans and just about everything else that didn’t move
Big Game hunting consisted of Starlings that nested in the Shed .

Haha they are great fun. I wasn't allowed one as a kid cause M&D didn't believe in shooting birds (so I got 3 rounds of 22 at a time and sent to shoot rabbits).

Now I'm a big kid I have one, we should have a forum challenge and then I'd have to dig it out!

Air rifles are murder on scopes - the recoil is so violent that the reticles are torn apart.

Unless its an air rifle rated scope , or the rifle is not of the break-open design.

When I get my hands on it ( Australia's backward laws means it will be a couple of weeks ) I will post up my results .
I think then we should start a Tin Can challenge ( remember we are being Kids again ) and post our results .

Ah yes, I remember well the old Telly Super .177, and then onto the rifle of my dreams, the BSA meteor .22
Used to shoot at everything that didn't move, and most things that did. Even shot a Hereford bull in the balls one day just to see if I could. Luckily for him and me it was semi long distance for an air-rifle, so no great harm done but I do remember getting out of there real quick.
    Yes, those were the days

Air rifles are great fun, I've got a Ruger Airhawk 177 and have kept it open sighted.
At the ranges it's effective, I can see well enough and it's a great challenge.
It's a cheap budget rifle but it's also one of my most used rifles in the back yard plinking

Mine was a BSA Mecury which I still have. Recently sent it to Youngs Air Guns for a birthday. Need to sort out a scope for it as open sights are starting to get hard.

Although I wish I could still do “ Iron Sights “ my eyes just can’t make it happen anymore.
I’ve got three random scopes sitting doing nothing at the moment and few mount options.
Those Tin Cans are in serious trouble
