    Old Rifles

    Hey guys

Got a couple of old rifles that I'm half considering getting rid of, the problem i have is that i don't know what they are and how much i should ask for them.

Is there anyone in here that may have some information about them?

    cheers
(hopefully i uploaded the pictures correctly)

    Lee Enfield No. 1 mk111*
Not sure on the other, chilean mauser ?
He nui to ngaromanga, he iti to putanga.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !

Hi SuckAD, Might be a help if you could find the numbers on the metal of each.

That might give somebody here an idea of when they were made, and if they are rare examples.

The Mauser is a beauty. It is a DWM 7x57 made for Brazil , hence the B. It is one of the best made Mausers there are and its value would be reflected in its condition. Most were made in Berlin but this is one made in Oberndorf. Check that it does not have rust below the woodwork.

While you're at it, have a look down the inside of the barrel for rust as well.

I like that Mauser. They look so good in the white, all nice and clean.

My last Brazilian Mauser I bought at auction was in brand new condition with a mirror bore. That was $700. The 303 has been refurbed- looks like Aussie wood to me. If the bore is mint it's value is around $450 -550 ish.

The 303 is a nice example, 1915 and made at the Enfield factory too! Yes the wood is Australian, the markings on the butt give that away, wouldn’t get too fussed about that though, never know where the old girls been and what’s been repaired / refurbed in service verses restored.

The Mauser interests me, specifically the serial number, which I imagine to be pretty low. Do the experts here think a low number means more value necessarily?

From Milsurps .com re the Mauser:

"The best examples are often found with a serial numbered matching bayonet and scabbard, and sometimes the rifles are accompanied by a sling, muzzle cover and the original sighting target"
