Something I can put down to sit on and not get a wet arse. Probably a bit of foam bedroll kept under the flap of my daypack would do the trick
Wednesdays off
I use a 1ft sq of polythene. Stick it in my pocket or zip pocket on my pack waste belt depending on the pack.
A lens cloth that I can keep dry. For some reason if it is wet enough that I need to wipe the lens everything I touch is sodden.
@gadgetman I will send you a ziplock bag if you want! :D
@StrikerNZ I have a spare cloth or 2, pm me and I'll send it!
I use a square of ripstop nylon. I originally had it left over from making waterproof over mittens for leather motorcycle gloves after I lost the 0riginal ones. Works a treat, water proof, wind proof and if the weather truns to crap it can be used as a bandanna to retain heat from the head.... About a metre square and weighs about the same as two hankies....Got it from here a few years back at $5 per metre....HARALDS Warehouse | HARALDS Warehouse | Christchurch, Canterbury An old school type shop. No elaborate website, but nice helpful people.
The bedroll peice is perfect arse care for glassing, keeps butt dry, keeps butt warm if sitting on icy rocks or snow and keeps butt comfortable if sitting on sharp rocks etc.
My one small thing is a decent camera......and about ten other things :D
a deer
Some way to juggle Deer pack and rifle, something along the lines of a deer carrying strap
Flashbacks to a Ureweras hunt. Day bag on my front, meat bag on my back, rifle in one hand and stag head in the other bush bashing to get out of a valley I had followed him into and wondering how I was going to make it back to camp
A few years ago a young hunter was looking for a pack frame to carry deer. He was pretty keen so I didn't mind giving him my old Macpac with an external frame I bought with 1 weeks wages when I was 15.
Something similar wouldn't go astray.
Some kind of chair and table arrangement that fits into my pocket and weighs nothing.
My FAL and a rifle...:oh noes:
I keep getting told the one small thing I always forget to take out hunting is my 6 year old.
A PLB would be handy when I need one for someone or myself but reloading has been taking the priority.
Spotting scope because I'm too lazy to walk to and from the 200m mound.
A cigerette roller. Nothing else worse, sit down and have a smoke , dirt dry hands gotta lick ya fingers to moisten them ! Or blood , gives me the shits
I used to pre roll a few for those times
Still pack some Wee Willem cigars for around the campfire
