Optic question need help

So ive just re zeroed my rifle , however when i got home i realised the ring on the end of my objective lens on my scope was loose ... instinctively i tightend it up .

Does this mean now my zero will be out , like a noticible amount ?? Or will it still be shooting alright. Id take it back to re sight in but im off tomorrow.

I have a ranger 3-9-40 (ikr ) for reference .
The glass inside looked to have moved slightly when the outer ring on the lens turned if that helps .

Any advice would be sick .

Sounds like it is just a focus lens, if you didn't touch the windage or elevation under the turrets it should be fine. You mean the ring on the ocular lens, where your eye goes right? If so no issue.

Its the target side of the scope . Wasnt aware it could be loosend tbh . Objective bell it might be called .

Unless it's an AO ( adjustable objective) model which allows focussing on the target, nothing in the front should ever be loose on a std style scope.

And.....assume nothing,I recently got caught with an AO scope that is supposed to move that bell. When turning the Chairs were scribing a circle of about 8" at hundy according to my bore sighter!!!! Will only cost you two shots to confirm and 25 yards should do it...hundy better of course but 25 is easier to find.

Yeah i dont think its supposed to move it all so , i guess its buggerd.

On a couple of scopes I've had it was only hand tight, with such a fine thread on them it doesn't need to be cranked up. Some are there only to protect the thread, others its the lock ring to stop the objective lens moving - its how you set/adjust the parallax distance, winding the objective lens in/out. Got a close-up pic? How loose was it? It may or may not affect your POI, only way to know would be to try it. But it certainly doesn't mean your scope is buggered. Are you off this evening, or gone already? If you are over my side of town I could have a quick look.

Ill be getting a new one . Came cheap in a package deal ages ago .

My guess is the last few shots from recoil loosend it . Im thinking my poi should be still alright. It had a thread , so it might just be the cap that protects the lens.
