Thread: Painting rifle

Hi all. I'm looking at camo painting one of my rifles. It has developed a very small bit of surface rust in a few spots and I'm wondering what is the best rust killing and preventing primer to use on barrel steel. But if I was to decide not to paint the barrel what is the best treatment to stop the rust? So far I've rubbed it down with some steel wool and applied some oil but I need something more permanent and the rubbing from steel wool is quite visible. Any advice? Thanks
