    Thats certainly possible. They were on an old rifle I bought a few years back; no scope on it, just rings and bases. However, when I retrieved them from storage tonight a thin shim came loose from inside one of the rings, so they very well may be 26mm as you suggest. ( I removed those rings and bases from the rifke at the time andcrepkacwd them eith steel weaver bases and rings for a leupold VXR illum tmr 3-9*40 scope.

    The RAL S3 is 24mm (.94") in diameter.
    The RAL S4 is 25.5mm (1.00") in diameter
    Or you can stay within 300 yards and keep life a lot simpler.
