    Picked up new rifle today.

Quite possibly the last new Barrett Fieldcraft long action available anywhere in world?

Have fitted it with a GPO 1.5-9x44 Illuminted With drop reticle.

If factory data on weights are correct it comes in all up under 6.2 lb. But havnt confirmed on scales yet.

First impressions are its incredibly well made and trigger is a dream!

The bolt made me take a second look, its diameter had me thinking it was from a mini action 223.

That looks like a nice rifle, like a hunting rifle should be. And nice choice on the scope too. Have fun

Those GPO scopes are pretty nice, just wish they did a zero stop external turret. Very sensible hunting rifle and useful magnification range on that set up

Yes. The last new rifle I bought was 28years ago- A BRNO 600 in same calibre. It was my go too rifle for all that time. I decided I deserved another one rifle/scope combo for everything before I got too old, and put quite some thought into what it would do. So the thought process was, shots out too 400 meters, no mucking around with dials, light enough to bush stalk with in hand all day, Illuminated reticle to give me a bit of extra time at the ends of the day. Also I have a german partner, so Intend to do a bit of hunting in Europe over next 10 years. I wanted a Euro style scope so Im comfortable with them in thier type of situations. Also because the 270 has lost a bit of favour, I chose it as reloading components probably wont disappear of shelves as fast as some of the newer PRC type calibers.

Very cool. Not a fan of having a rail on a hunting rifle but thats a well set up wee rig

No neither am I. I just could not get 30mm barrett rings today. So I figured Id get the rail and have it as a back up given they may not make components for this model for much longer, and that gives me time to source the rings as well.

If Talleys make rings that will fit most reputable retailers should be able to order ex the USA about 3-4 weeks lead time in my experience.

That's certainly a fine looking rifle with its' very trim lines. It doesn't look like it would be weighty at all and I believe it will be as light as you say. I think I would enjoy carrying that on the hill too, except I would want the bolt on the other side !
What is magazine capacity and can you drop cartridges out the bottom ? hard for me to tell.
Must catch up with you later on how the scope performs for you. Recently I was seriously considering that very model but couldn't find an actual example to look at. Ended up going with another Leupold VX6 1-6, illuminated that was a great deal secondhand and I should receive it in 5 weeks or so.
Happy hunting with your new companion.
