Please help - Just found out my gun be might be E-Cat...

    Hello,

I've only had my license a few years and have been out to shoot a handful of times in total as I can't find time with work. I've just signed up here and have found out from reading on here that they changed something with guns with handgrips a while ago. I'm worried that my Marlin .22 that I've had since I got my license is now an e-Cat instead of an a-Cat. The first thing I'm going to do on Monday is of course call my local arms officer and find out for certain and what I can/should do, however I wanted to see other peoples experiences on here. Any suggestions? My .22 has a stock that has an open pistol grip handle design. I've just looked at the law changes and as far as I can see it looks like it is now an e-Cat? It has a standard 10 round mag etc. it's only the pistol grip. Anyone else suddenly met with this problem?

    Cheers,
    Steve

Sorry, I mean the pistol grip doesn't attach to the butt end, which I understand it now does have to to be a-Cat?

I would say if its like the stock pictured its always been an e cat. The law only partially changed for a bit for the dragonov style stocks.

But I would say its an e cat.

It's probably an MSSA. Change stock or get your E endorsement. Probably change stock anyway because they're Bad

Really? I bought it with my a-Cat license.

What if I put in a metal road from the bottom of the pistol grip to the end of the stock?

A rod from the grip to the stock was once considered ok but not any more. It either needs a thumbhole stock , a standard rifle type stock or as you have it but as E-Cat.
You would probably get a E- Endorsment with hunting as a reason to own. But are the E-Cat security measuers you will need to comply worth the effort, thats something only you can answer.

If the stock is fixed like you say then it was once an a cat. No worry. Get your e cat. Opens up a world of options to you. Or dont get your endorsment and put it back into its original dress code. Either way, problem solved. I knew their half arsed advertising campaign around the thumbhole stocks bullshit wasnt efficient enough.

Thanks for the input! I wanted to look into getting my e-Cat regardless, however I didn't think "hunting" was a legitimate reason.
