The thing I rate about my .270 is that it shoots most factory ammo under an inch consistently. I dont bother reloading with it as it's a sub 350 yard gun for Dad.

However 22" barrel and a suppressor ain't too practical (bought it like that), so I'll be cutting it to 18" and running a DPT with a SS baffle.

    Currently Unavailable
    Bullet Weight: 136
    Bullet Style: Terminal Ascent

I was meaning the factory Hornady 145 ELDX are quite slow, however very accurate in Tikkas. I'm sure the federal factory still kills very satisfactory for them in shorter barrels and can pump their sponsor.
The hotter handloads 145's with Super P are a noticeable step up in my observations. Great goat load, 350-400m is easier and they don't go far, well not under their own steam as roll down the hill.
Found rather destructive on the fallow and went back to 22.250 on them, less messy processing.

That stuff they used was factory rated as 3,000 fps so I guess at 18" it would be something like 2875 at best, but as you say a good bc to carry it along.

Still no slouch even at those speeds its holding 1000ftlbs out to 700yds, more than enough for a sub 400yd gun, pretty good actually.

Last year I put some .270 loads through Labradar, Tikka T3 .270 standard 22" Barrel, Oceania Defense Suppressor and this is what I found in this rifle.

    140 SST Super-performance Factory
    Ave Velocity 3042 fps
    Didn't group well

    145 ELD-X Precision Hunter
Ave Velocity 2824 fps (Hornady claim 2970 from 24" barrel)
    Very accurate, ragged hole

145 ELD-X Handload Super-Performance, accurate final load (details on thread on forum)
    Ave Velocity 3045 fps
Very accurate, ragged hole again. Must have got into next node up from factory loads.
    Emphatic killer on animals.

Wow Busy weekend and boom so much awesome information when I get back on line, thanks for the info guys.
Looks like I will be measuring up and seeing where I go between 16/18" I don't mind chopping the stock so will see what I can track down for the moderator with steel blast parts to take the Hell fire produced Haha.
should be a fun gun hopefully it likes the cheapest ammo I can find.
Ill be happy with Minute of Rabbit accuracy and that should make it fun and suitable for deer to 300m plenty far enough for a bush gun.

Worth a try of the Remington Corelock .270 if you are after cheap(well it used to be), it shot extremely well in my mates Marlin and didn't like the other brands when he decided to treat it to some more $$ offerings.

    Hi guys.

Please note that our non magnum over barrel suppressor is only rated for 270/30-06 with barrels 19" or longer, with or without a s/s blast baffle. If you want to go shorter you will need to put a magnum suppressor on it and id recommend a s/s blast baffle.

Good information there Darren, that could potentially end up untidy.

Here's a question for all you 270 bush piggers, does shortening you barrel from say 24" to 18" affect your accuracy ? Are you having to re do load developement ?

shit if I had a 24" 270 barrel I would be a happy chappie...... old girl was 20" and newbie is 22" always thought if rebarreling would go 27 just for shits n giggles, would possibly negate need for suppressor to some degree,or could go DPT with less baffles as would be heap quieter anyway....in theory more powder would be burned inside barrel

Purely semantics, I'm just curious that's all

Accuracy can improve - with less barrel whip and different harmonics - or something. Ive never had a deterioration in accuracy shortening any barrel.

Sometimes I've needed to move to a faster burning/higher energy powder and/or drop a bullet weight to reclaim lost velocity.

I had a 20" 270 that easily did 3k with 130 grn and N560 powder. Howa with a Boyds thumbhole stock. Fluted barrel. I thought it was too heavy. Someone in ChCh bought it for a song.

Makes sense, I was more getting at would the same load be as accurate in an 18" barrel as it is in a 24" barrel granted it would likely be 150fps slower.
Or are you guys having to start all over again with load development ?
Again just curious I am in no way considering chopping 5" off my barrel
