    Posting "gunparts"

Went into post office today with two parcels to post. Attendant took one look at me and said, "are those gun parts?"
    No, they are telescopic sights"
"Please wait. We had an issue yesterday and there are new rules". She disappears out the back for 5 minutes.
She comes back. "are you sure thats all there is in those parcels; nothing else; Telescopic sights only?"
"Yes, that's all there is inside those parcels"
"OK; we've got an ok for those from our international directive".

    Sooo___ Expect some questions.

I can see where couriers stand with firearms but I think parts and related things is going to far, if you can buy it without showing your license you should be able to send it...

Until it goes missing and then they wont pay you a cent because it wasnt declared following their procedures. Also some couriers only cover up to 1k. Anything more you have to pay extra insurance for.

Sent courier, $2k insurance cover, they don't need to know what they're covering

If it was a 270 it would be able to use the force and say "these are not the gun parts you are looking for... move along"
    problem solved

The 2K insurance is absolutely worthless if something dumb happens & it disappears, its a firearm & they didn't know, won't carry it, so no insurance just like the story in the post above this

As retarded as it sounds if you want to send a "rifle sling" forget it, if its a "belt" no drama......

They wont even send a coin which could be considered collectable. If you look at the NZ Post guidelines of what they can ship, there isn't a lot that you can actually send.

Even had NZ Post delivery guy go nuts cause the box had cast lead projectiles in it. He said that the lead was a restricted item and they couldn't ship it. Even though it was lead cast into 357 projectiles, with nothing else in the box.

The "situation" with sending firearms and parts is entirely of the couriers and posts own making: if they had followed & enforced their own processes in the first place, no "prohibited item" would ever have been left at a doorstep unattended....which is where the media blew it all out of proportion...
