Posting a rifle . . . which courier service do you recommend?

Apologies if this has been asked a million times already. But just interested in some of your experience. I have a rifle I need to get to the South island. Its all wrapped up good but just wanted a bit of general advice from the more experienced. Thanks in advance for you input.

    Fast ways have my tick

Remember that they may ask you to confirm that the bolt is being couriered separately..........

I understand you can also do through hunting and fishing stores

A tip: Send the rifle via Fastways (last one was $20 from one end of NZ to t'other, South to North), but bolt can be sent (well packaged of course, track n trace as well) via another company for around half what FW want. Little chance of both bits being near each other that way.

i had fastways courier a rifle to my house. they left it on the front door all day while i was at work. It should have been a signed package. Likely you will see this on the news soon as a result.

Individual courier drivers who choose to disregard signature-required deliveries are in my view, spread across most companies in many areas; in my local area they're all pretty good, but different companies have given me grief with failing to follow my signature required on items I've sent away. It's luck of the draw.

I just make sure I have evidence and insurance these days before I send an item. (within NZ btw)

It pays to check the Courier Company's conditions, many state they won't take firearms. If you send with one of these there usually isn't a problem until the package goes missing.

It's probably a bit late now, as you've probably already sent it, however, the last rifle I had sent to me by Fastway, well, I went in the following day, to pick the thing up, and they told me (in typical Fastway fashion) that it hadn't arrived yet! Keeping an eye out on their website, using the track and trace facility (which incidentally isn't worth a knob of goat sh%t) I was able to see that it was in transit, and coming up from the South. The next day, I went to my local depot 'again' to pick it up, only to see pandemonium, with the local guys saying there's been a truck crash just North of town from one of their trucks coming from the North.

Breathing a sigh of relief, safe in the knowledge that my $7,000 approx. rifle build was in the freight coming up from the South, I said ok, however, mine's coming up from the South, the tracking number told me so... to which they assured me in the most strongest possible terms that NO, it's on the truck that's come off the road and into the ditch! :Wtfsmilie: and all the rest associated with it!

What had happened is Fastway took it in a totally different direction and, instead of me getting it the following day, like I should have, it toured half way round the South Island 'literally'! Then, it got put on the truck that come to grief! They then just write any 'sh%t' in their track and trace simply to keep the customer happy!

Whilst I have had packages (including rifles) ferried safely by Fastway before, I must say that the one courier that I've overwhelmingly had the most problems with 'is' FASTWAY!... MORE than all the other's put together, in fact, sometimes I won't even do business with you if you're intent on sending it FASTWAY!

My $7,000 approx. Custom rifle build sitting somewhere amidst this steaming pile of crap!

Don't go posting crap like that on the news. You'll have us all not being able to send rifles by courier 'ever'! Also, the less honest amongst us will be casing out, more intently, people's front doors in the hope of scoring themselves a gun! The gun lov'n fraternity are in enough strife now, we don't need that kind of crap publicised/broadcasted, especially from one of our own! What could you possibly hope to gain from it?
