Hoping someone can tell me what the procedure is - if any - to bring in a second hand scope from Oz.
Bought it ages ago but needing it for the Roar so thought I would get it posted over ?
Thanks for any help.

Probably need a license to Import
https://www.police.govt.nz/advice-se...mits-import-or
Pretty sure that changed 9 or so months back no import license required for optics now.
I don't know where they have jumped to with this. Have heard you require Permit To Import for scopes and likewise that you don't.
Best to ask them at PermitFirearms@police.govt.nz
Also, if the item is worth more than a grand you need an NZ Customs Client Code.
It's easy enough to apply for just the form is on first glance daunting.
You need to also use the guide What's My Duty to see what you potentially could be stung.
Now having said all that I've heard stories of people getting stuff in without any issues, no gst, no client codes applied for.
Biggest issue is probably it getting out of Oz.
I got one sent from the States 2nd hand off e-bay in the last 12 months.Just came thru NZ Post system as a plain Jane package. No plod or customs involvement on optics.
Good afternoon,
A telescopic sight is not considered a part pursuant to the Arms Act 1983 and as such, there is no requirement to obtain a permit to import for this item.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know.

Reply received today. Thanks for the help.
I fired off a question today to the email address above seeking clarification for scope bases as some old school bases aka claw mounts are more robust than the skinny 1" or 30mm rings that are more commonly found today so will wait and see. Although I forgot to ask if I need an export permit should I choose to send my scopes overseas.
For anyone's interest: I received a reply after 46.5 hrs from the Arms Safety group, advising scopes and scope mounts aka claw mounts do not meet section 2 of the Arms Act 1983 therefore no permit is required.
i had an interesting experience a few years ago . bought 2 redfields s/h in aus for $40 the pair. put them in my carry on and got stopped at customs in brisbane because apparently to get them out of the country you need an export permit from the aus defence force. after a shit ton off f,,king around and almost missing my flight i left them with my nephew and got my sister to bring them over a couple of months later in her checked baggage. f ing customs guy was an aresehole and obviously missed his coffee break
Just posted one today, Perth to Invercargill; no paperwork other than nomal declaration. Will see how it goes.
@Ridgeman.
No issues took about 14 days though, 4 days just to get from Post Office to Airport in Perth another 4 days waiting a flight, no other problems.
Just had one arrive from a commercial seller in the US. No issue at all - was under gst limit which I think is 1k now. 1k US can get you quite a bit of scope from there.
Did you purchase this through a website in the US? I thought it had been a little more difficult to do this. Good to see you can still get them in. Out of curiosity what site did you use or could you PM me. I have used a few in the past but they are more difficult to get things in with now. Cheers
