I got a couple of CZ527 223 barrels unused take offs from them, one repurposed onto my Sako A1…gunsmithing cost a bit though…
Got one of the 527s on a Howa mini, in 223 and man! Its a hammer.
Greetings,
I have had good experiences with take out barrels. One was a two groove .303 barrel I picked up for $10.00 which had probably come from a No4 being used for target shooting. It replaced a pitted barrel in my no4 that although it shot quite well was an absolute pig to clean. The barrel was likely practically new as many thought the two groove barrels were crap regardless of never having fired one. The second was a shot out 7.62 target barrel. A friend cut this of at the breech, fitted to my Martini action and chambered for the .30-30. Later Dinny rechambered it for .30-40 Krag. Another friend used a shot out target barrel for his .308 Norma mag with excellent results. At that tome the 7.62 target shooters used the 144 grain NATO pill which would not tolerate any degree of throat erosion so barrels were replaced after about 1,000 rounds while 99% of the barrel was mint.
For many these days changing the cartridge being used is a fashion statement rather than being based on barrel condition. There a lot of good barrels being taken out for that reason.
Regards Grandpamac.
Yes - I have a used 308 target barrel sitting waiting for replacement on my 308 Norma Mag too
Yeah not talking about a worn out one. Either one taken off a new rifle for a new or different one, or has been suggested a broken in target barrel
Yeah, they are normally placed on trade me

Nah, my oldest boy shot the nails I used on my target frames with the 223. So we're calling it the hammer.
