problems keeping bipod attached to recessed integral sling stud

As already said, on my Franchi Horizon, the front swivel stud is actually integral to the stock and recessed, the bushbuck bipod I have, has, on a couple of occasions decided to throw my gun on the ground, so far my cat like reflexes have managed to catch it, what am I doing wrong as it seems that getting the clamp and pin to engage properly is A: a pain in the arse and B: not always reliable, would appreciate you good buggers giving me some pointers
expect nothing, appreciate everything - and there's ALWAYS something to appreciate
