The inbuilt illuminator is for short distances, so that it can be used for working at armslength without dazzling. They are supplied with an IR torch which looks like a bright spotlight through the goggles. Do you want to use it for walking, or shooting?

Was hoping to use it for both on the farm with a laser. Max distance shooting would not be more than 100 meters.

100 m against pigs and deer max. I found that the size of the laser dot was too large for small critters, except possums up trees. I'm setting up my .44 mag to use with Edge GS goggles. I'm putting a Pulsar L-808 IR laser flaslight on the barrel, and a laser sight on my scope. The Pulsar Challenger GS 1x20 monocular works pretty well also, and costs less. Eeni meeni minie mo....

I contemplated a scope forward nv but at the end of the day I thought the goggles might be better as you could still walk in and out in the dark and still be able to shoot an animal using a laser on the rifle.

What type of terrain will you be walking over?

A bit of native bush. Pine blocks mostly pasture.

Trip hazards can be a problem because the gogs will either be focussed for three metres for walking, or on infinity for spotting game. Tracks and pasture ok, my experience walking through bush has not been that great, regardless of goggle generation and cost.
