    QD Rings

A couple of Q's for those who have had experience with QD Rings

On a bolt action - what side should I have the ring leavers ?
What or how should they be tightened on - just finger tight or with a tweak using an extension ?

    Cheers

Slightly off topic, the Nikko Stirling Steel Lok QD mounts are very cheap at $45 on Gunworks website. I haven't looked at them in the flesh yet, just on web. The only ones I have used had a camming stud at the front like a bridge mount and the scope was rotated on and off and locked at the rear. Held zero very well.

I just go firmly hand tight with mine. Maybe mount them on the side that faces out when carrying the rifle on your shoulder

In theory they would be the way you show them and looking forward.

So levers in right of rifle
That way the recoil will not loosen them.
They don't need a lot of pressure and I re set the levers to face each other. That way you turn them to the same place and tension each time

I have 3 sets of those Warne qd mounts and they are ok for the money.

Warne seem to suggest they go on the right - at least they do on those that have a tapered dovetail like CZ.

Have a set of these. Mounted opposite side to bolt. Hand tighten. Not troubles. 7x57 three scopes
Three separate hand loads mixing the hnadloads up between the scopes is ummmmm interesting

I always mount my scope rings with as much of the "clutter" ie levers, screws, nuts etc away from the ejection port. On the left side for a right handed rifle. Never know when you may want to clear a stuck or jammed round and sharp bits make it bloody difficult.

    Cheers Guys
I have on opposite side of bolt/breech
I hear @akaroa1 Re the recoil - I am using 243 and .22 so I don't think will need RHS for recoil
I will do the lever adjust to 3 and 9 o'clock though

Still looking for rail for Marlin X57 - think a Gunsmith visit to tap/drill a Weaver for her might be earliest option

I’m the same, but mainly so the “sticky-out bits” are not where my hand is when carrying the rifle. Which is also the reason I dislike detachable magazines that don’t sit flush.

Levers on left on my Ruger 416 Rigby worked fine in pretty rugged conditions in Zim. Didn’t want the ejection port/mag obstructed in any way chasing dangerous game.

If youre right handed you dont want them rubbing or getting caught on your pants pocket etc if walking with the rifle in your hamd at your side, you will also generally carry a rifle over your right shoulder when on a sling, face them outwards so they dont get caught up on your clothing etc if just carrying it on your shoulder and wont dig into your back with the rifle slung across your back

Good points all round. But if you want to load in a hurry I’ve found you can catch your hand on them. Had that happen on driven boar. Blood everywhere which then got stuck into the checkering hence I swapped em over to the other side.
