    Question on Ranger 3-9x40

Hey so im wondering if somone can explain something thats been bugging me.

I have the ranger 3-9x40 scope and my zero is 1 inch high at 100 m.

Does that mean , my first reticle line will be good for anything up to 200 m ?

Second question , what does that make the value of the below lines ??
(For example does that make the second line down 300m ?? )

Any insight on this would be great . Hope that made sense.

Sight in rifle at 100m then refer to chart below for approximate ranges. Confirm drops in real life at range. Name: 06BDD60F-E2C0-4864-BF26-C0A3BCD7D655.png

I think the Ranger is a second focal plane, meaning the distance between the lines changes relative to real world measurements as you rotate the zoom ring.

Real world again, for a SFP scope the lines in the reticle are useful at one power on the zoom ring otherwise you have to do a heap of mental arithmetic to work it out and for most humans it's too hard.

If you want to work this out to something that's meaningful, mark up a piece of plywood or the like with lines at 100mm spacing so you can see them in the scope and set it up at 100m. Then you can work out exactly what distance means what in the scope at what power.

If this is useful for your rifle also depends on the caliber of the rifle and the trajectory of your load (bullet weight and ballistic coefficient with muzzle velocity) but for most calibers 1' up at 100 is still "point blank" at 200m i.e. aim with the crosshairs on what you want to hit and the bullet will be close.

Indeed, the easiest way is a measured hundy and put up a bold measuring stick,or board, box with measured lines and see what it actually means...I still haven't done it with the one scope I own that has mil dots lol.

Nothing more reliable than real world validation of the calculations, and it saves the hassle of doing the calculations.

I have SFP ballistic reticles and don’t find the zoom factor a problem. If your needing to shoot beyond any distance that needs to use the reticle drop compensation, you can put the scope on max zoom and always use that setting for drop. Low mag is for off-hand shots closer up where drop isn’t a factor.
