Thread: Quick Barrell length question.

Hi all

I have a 6.5 x 55 with barrel length of 22 3/4 " from breach face to barrel end that I m gonna fit a suppresser to and the suppresser goes past barrel by
155. mm so effectively adds that to barrel length. How much would you shorten the barrel by if any, so it still retains velocity and accuracy etc ?
It will be used with two loads 140 AMAX as I see from comments in another thread the thread suggests they are a good projectile and will reload them to achieve 1750 or less fps.
I d like to try some on the AMAX 110 s as well at some point for smaller game like goats and fallow but these would be sub 150 meter shots at first.

I'd cut the fucker to 18" and I'd also forget the 110s because 1: they don't exist and 2: the 140 will do literally everything better

May have been 120 s Sorry brain dead too many dipstick calculations today already But that's cool thanks way easier to just have one for all loads ...
At 18" do many of the characteristics change as if not that would make the fucker pretty short.. ? Be pretty blimmin light too !
Would that affect recoil , accuracy, range, knock down ?

accuracy: not worse, possibly better
range: not in the real world
knockdown: not a real thing but the bullets will still kill shit

I reckon 140's. Since you want it going slow might as well have some weight.

Not sure if 18" would make it shoot that bad if its under 150m

Hey Toby Shot goats at 300 + no worries with 6.5 x 55 Id like to still have the odd crack at that sort of stuff or odd rabbit or hare at that sort of range.

Was thinking of trying one of the DPT ones this time . specifically this one DPT over barrel Rifle Suppressor - DPT Machinists

Better idea ? I don't want a Hardy on this gun. No problems but I don't want to spend too much on it .

lenght out front sucks. I have a DPT modular over barrel in the post today that Ill be using
Im of the thinking that 100mm is the most I will put up with in front of the barrel

dpt will make you what ever you ask also, so if you want something slightly different then just ask, darren is a top bloke

Consider that you'll likely lose somewhere between 30-50 fps per inch of barrel that you remove, depending upon the individual barrel itself.
Impact speeds from the 6.5x55 at 400+ meters from a barrel cut to 18 inches will still kill things just fine with the A-Max's.
Speed is nice, accuracy is deadly.

I dont have experience with the 6.5x55 specifically but will chuck in ten cents.

If it will always be suppressed go as short as you can, will make no noticeable difference at the ranges you mention.
If you intend to shoot unsuppressed occasionally be aware that short barrels give SHITLOADS of muzzle blast and flash un suppressed.

yea things get very bangy when your short barrel isnt wearing its suppressor

Ok got the Gunworks Duraliun Spartan suppressor with freight and the neoprene cover and two barrel bushes all up incl GST = $339.00

Will shorten as much as possible with maybe a little of the stock cut off at the forend (Don't really have too many worries how this one looks)

And trigger job whilst getting threaded.

Have some projectiles etc on the way and will see how it comes together in the next couple of weeks.
