Ruining good steak..may as well have used the 270 lol
back in the mid 2000,s I was running goat control based out of Stratford we went thru a phase of trying sub rounds some got their 223 sakos rebarrelled into I think it was 300 blackout and Wanganui went one further and tried 44mag suppressed Ruger semi autos - did not last long - yes quiet over dogs handy in bush yes but the big complaint - total lack of effective range - goats deer 200 away across a gully safe - pissed of hunters - did not last even six months as an idea - back to supressed 223 and 222
Barry,I'm genuinely surprised the fellas didn't simply slip in a supersonic normal load and carry on as usual. Best of both worlds and personally believe it's better to be zeroed for subs and know where supers will be than the other way around.
no they did not get into that - one mate used to carry sub .222 for over his dogs pig hunting -but the boys liked the supplied ammo - and Wanganui was supplying the 44 mag ( for a while) I cant remember now what the guts was with the 300 blackout - I supplied .222 and .223 and was not prepared to do different - ( $8 for packet of federal .222 then lol ) all the boys knew the story with ammo .222 or .223 if they wanted different then swap somewhere - it was the same when I was culling one or two wanted .243 well they got .270 or .308 and swapped - FS it was .222 .308 and .270 now apart from .223 why would you want anything else
I carry half dozen light loads of 222 or 223. Much more polite for finishing shot or that possum that jumps up tree and cackles at you. I have shot 3 wallabies using them this month.just cause I could do so and it was close.
kind thing to do with dogs but once the boys went to pure indicating dogs they could signal them in and shoot without worry
30 cal. 190 gr sub-X recovered from pig, about 45-50 kg on Friday. 10 gr Trail Boss, 16.5” Bergara takedown rifle, DPT suppressor. Shot was about 62m slightly quartering away behind front leg, recovered bullet was just breaking skin on off-side. Pig dropped on spot. Usually use 151 gr cast bullets which work well but trying these to see how they go, ok so far on goats and pig. Nice and quiet. Attachment 256941Attachment 256942Attachment 256943
I use, and have hunted alot over the last few years with the 300 Blk Hornady 208gr A-Max and while it's done the job for me on many a deer it's certainly very limited in range and you need to be mindful of ricochet. A number of them also seem to be close to, or just going supersonic and that's out of a min legal length barrel with a can on the end.
IMO I'm happier to shoot the 300blk supersonic ammo and take the minor noise increase for the better stopping power and range advantage.
You got a 9mm rifle?
Are you suggesting making 223 subsonic rounds? 308 works fine but I think 9mm is the way to go.
223 subsonic does have its place... Think to self could I do it with subsonic 22lr??? If yip no problem...the 223 will work.
Bang a couple extra baffles on the 223
Hi i down load .223 to subsonic and use 45grain HP/BEE very effective on Wabbits Cheers
Tikka 223
Its possible but you need specialist guns and ammo to do it like this. Not really cost effective given the need for specialist stuff to get good results

Tongue in cheek, but still ballistically feasible.
A get-around the OPs aversion against reloading.
Put one of these attachments on the business end of a .308 or .223 and you have a single-shot subsonic rifle chambering supersonic ammo.
Or ask a friend who owes you a favour to maybe do some reloads for you. He is allowed to do so, just not to sell them to you.

44 magnum will fit the bill, just use some flat pointed, wad catter ish looking 44 specials. job done.
with full beans 44 mag im happy to take a goat/deer to 100 yards with the red dot too (got to know trajectory well)
Can get all that in factory ammo too, no need to reload
