    Rail mount options/opinions

Gidday Guys - I have a couple of rifles that "cross-over" from hunting duties to casual level PRS shooting. One is a laminated stock, the other synthetic

It would be good for range shooting to have some ACRA rail to use but it's how to install it. Put it on permanently - is it a finger biting, clothes ripping curse like picatinny? How long, for competing the full length of the fore-end is probably best?

Maybe use UIT/ Anschutz rail (which is inlet flush with the stock) and adapter nuts to attach the ACRA rail as required?

Maybe a combination rail, mostly ACRA but with a short picatinny at the outboard end?

    Thoughts?

I Think you could mount an arca rail quite flush with stock by inletting below where the rail would sit. Nothing like a Picatinny which sits proud of the stock.

An arca shouldn't be too finger biting/catchy. some of the nicer ones have a smoother edge that isnt too bad to hold. I have a henderson one that i dont use but has a smooth finish.

It only needs to go full length if youre planning on clipping in to a tripod. i mainly use the front end of my arca for bipods or clipping on a plate bag for tripod rear in PRS.

depends on the stock for mounting. making an anchutz rail sounds overkill surely there is a way to drill and bolt it on?

    Hope that helps anyway.

I’m pretty sure it’s an adaptation from the camera world isn’t it, so hardly tactical.
    More evolutionary or adaptive.

From what I can see online the Ozark Henderson brand ones are favored by US hunters ( but that still doesn't mean much haha)

i epoxy fill the edges on my arca when fitting to the tikka 260. made for a flush smooth side. used the 2 sling mounts in the stock to fit it. made a 300mm and a 200mm.
