I'm looking for a rangefinder...
Is a rangefinder just a rangefinder? What real difference is there in cheap vs expensive?
Is there a feature I should be looking for? I'm assuming TBR..?

Depends how far you want to shoot really. Keep in mind, often the advertised range is based on "reflective" targets. Their ability to range deer etc is often a lot less. I have the leupold 1600 with tbr. Works well and will range deer farther than I can shoot them.

Its not what you get but what you give that makes a life !!
I had a cheap one to start off with which I used for air rifles. Fine for that but would give odd readings in he bush and in low light conditions or just not work all all.
Settled on the Delta range finder wich beside a buddy's Leica range finding binoculars they are within a yard or two.

I went for a Leica 2800. Waited for a deal.
A bit dealer but I will not sell it for many years.

still using my Sndway i brought few years ago off ali express for $150. has not failed yet out to 900 yards.
What model sndway are the best?
I have a Sndway that goes out to 600m. I'd love one with more legs for non-hunting purposes more than hunting, but out to 900or more would be better for that open stuff.
Identify your target beyond all doubt because you never miss (right?) and I'll be missed.
I just bought my 2nd SNDWAY 1500, due drowning the last one ( they are only IP54 rated, so definitely did not like being dropped in the creek).
Other than that, great unit for the money.
The electronics in my Leupold gave up so have sent them off for repair and bought a Sig sauer canyon to replace them.
Very pleased with them so far ,they out do the leupold easily.
I had one of the cheap golf ones for a while, when it worked it was good. But low light or any glare and it was useless. Given that most times I need a range it ends up being early morning or late evening it was worthless more than helpful.
Sold my sako 85 bavarian and bought a pair of Leica HD-R's, never looked back.
