    Rattle gun suggetions

Righto. I am currently looking for a reliable and accurate Hi capacity (Ecat) semi for competition shooting, not hunting.

Being ex military I am familiar with most platforms but the AR has evolved somewhat ( I believe for the better ) since I lugged an M16A1 around.

So far an AR platform has preference.
I want accurate and reliable not shit tons of useless accessories.
A fixed stock and ergo hand guard is all I need, not rails for Africa except one for optics.
I really like the look of the Sig 516 and have always been a big sig fan.
I would consider a Sig 550/551 if I could find one.
Styer not so much, mainly because of trigger.
Would be good to hear opinions from other competitive shooters.

My budget is flexible. In other words, If I like it I will buy it 😆

    Cheers in advance.

JP either CTR-02 or their base model. But neither will be cheap. Most I have handled were privtely imported but they now have an NZ distributor

I'm not a fan of the AR platform, pricks to do stoppage drills with.

I like the layout of these but have never handled one, I'm sure they could be had cheaper elsewhere.

223 Bushmaster ACR Enhanced *E Cat*

    Or a modified SL8.

I wish I had your budget.

What kind of competitive shooting do you do? I would look at one of these https://nzar15.com/store/index.php?i...oller=product& Add a Geiselle trigger, put it on E cat and add a nice optic

    They are heavy but accurate.
Did a bit of venison with one. Worked well.
But doubt I would shoot one in service or 3 gun well.

Not sure if I would get an ACR, it could be difficult to get parts if you ever needed some in the future. And for the price Gunshi*** want you could fly to the states with you permit and pick one up, pay shipping back etc. Unfortunately It is hard to get parts for anything here unless it is an AR 15 or you can order from Brownells.

If you were wanting to shoot service class in NZSRA Service Rifle it would pay to have a read through what models/configurations are eligable. A copy of the rule book can be forund here

    New Zealand Service Rifle Association

If you just want to run open class and 3 gun go with what takes your fancy.

If wanting a rifle for 3 gun don't bother with a SMC compliant rifle, it will put you at a disadvantage at 3 gun. There are plenty of open class shooters in SR to shoot against. I quite enjoy shooting open.

SL8s are shiiiit ergonomically. Yeah the AR ergos with the BHO could be improved but you can train around it so that it's really not an issue, and actually knowing how to clear a stoppage would put you ahead of the game of a lot of shooters I've seen, incl at comps

A decent gun won't have that issue very often anyway

I have a bad mag that causes double feeds which I keep for practicing clearing them

    Open, standard and tactical.
Not worried about drills. I was a grunt for most of my life so weapon drills were instinct. It won't take long to re address them. More worried about my shooting.

@R93 I have practiced drills with the AR and they are easy drills for me and now more instinctive than the Steyr which I found awkward. Neither are as nice as drills on an L1A1 but then they never seem to jam
