As far as Steyr reliability it seemed to depend on your luck with your issued rifle. I had jams with both blanks and live ammo but poorly loaded mags may have contributed as well as sand/volcanic ash/dirt etc. Some of the Australian made ones were not too good, a friend messed his hand up pretty bad when the plastic cocking handle broke exposing metal.
I got a new barrel, working parts, piston and gas plug about every 6 months. Never went to ASSAM or the like without new gear. Kept my own trigger group as it was worked.
