re barrel from 243w to 260rem

Thinking of project next year my rem m700 sps in 243 has had lots and lots of rounds down the tube and accuracy has never been that great in that barrel it has always had a dull bore, never bright and shiny. I have shortened the barrel and suppressed it and with lots of trail and error with reloading i have gained reasonable accuracy but its been a problem child very fussy when compared to my 223 and 308 that with reloads i had instant success.
So i think its time to re barrel and was thinking changing it to 260rem with a similar contour barrel and suppress it.
What powder and bullet combo are others using i have heard that adi ar2209 works well.

140-147 case full of 2209 is what I like. Newer powders may give more speed. I'm getting 2740fps from a 147 out of 19.5 barrel

so you going from 6mm/08 to a 6.5mm/08 and you already own a 7.6mm/08.....
you could go the other way and make it a 5.5mm/08
or go fatter and go .357 so a ??8mm??/08???

just thinking your 260 ISNT going to be huge difference in preformance from you 08....

True Micky but once foxhound finds out just how much better the 260 is than his 308 he will sell the 308 and be far better off.

Hodgdon superprofrmance or RL26 both will give good speeds and groups.
18" with Hodgdon superprofrmance and 143 ELDX get 2810 and 20" gets 2860

The great thing about custom barrels is that you can fit a barrel with a fast enough twist rate for the modern projectiles. Most factory barrels are lagging well behind with slow twist barrels.

My weatherby 308 is a tack driver just is a bit heavy. The 243 barrel is about done and is a lighter shorter overall package and 260 seems the way forward in range work and the odd cull. And i want a new challenge. Will never sell they weatherby i use that plenty as well .

i rebarrelled a 308 to 260 rem years ago never regretted it i went 1:9 twist however 1:8.5 or 1:8 would have been better for more options in projectiles not that ive had any issue running 120gn jobs at 2800fps -3000fps except my shooting at times😳

My 260 liked AR2209, the Hornady 143 eld-x, and the Sierra Gameking 130.

Creedmore fits better in a short action with the long bullets.
