Thread: Rechamber 708 to 7mm Saum

Morning all

Does anyone know if it is possible to do this with a T3 Stainless barrel and will a T3 708 barrel fit into a T3 Magnum action? If so any suggestions as to gunsmiths who would take the work on?

Note I have a magnum T3.

It could work but the twist rate would be less than ideal in my opinion theirs a few who ream t3 barrels but most are swapped at present mr max does it in Wellington maybe Alan Carr and a few others

I can't answer your question but do wonder if you would want a faster twist in the 7mm SAUM to handle todays high BC projectiles.

Thanks Kelton and Grandpamac - Have had a look at a technical sheet and T3 708 are 9.5" the same as their 7mm mag.

A friend recently rebarrelled his 7mm Rem Mag with a 1 in 8" twist so that he could shoot the high BC projectiles. I think Remington used a 1 in 9" or 1 in 9 1/4" twist. He found that the high BC projectiles shot well at 100 metres but turned to crap at longer ranges. The 7mm-08 barrel would be cheaper than a new barrel but may disappoint in the long run.

162elds and 168bergers are fine. I wouldn't want for more in a nz hunting rifle myself. The bore is .5mm too big though

It can be done but few gunsmiths will do it.
Also you will require you to have them open your bolt face up too. it would be cheaper to setback a 7mm rem mag tikka or if thats not possible to rebarrel any magnum tikka

Cut thread off a 7mm mag barrel then run a 7mmSaum chamber into the existing chamber until it cleans up and covers up the existing chamber. Then obviously retread the barrel for the action and headspace. The order of operation isn't probably 100% but the general idea is there.

Not up your way no. Any Smith that will rechamber a tikka shouldn't have any issue as they usually do a minor setback. Whether there is enough meat in the barrel is another story.
