    Rechamber prices and options

So, looking at building up a tops rifle and trying to work through some thoughts to drum up a plan. I had originally planned on using an existing action that I have but unfortunately I just can't locate a reasonable stock (plus a few other parts) for it and custom jobs are close to a year out plus scary money. I'm pretty well convinced that I want a 7mmSAUM so that I can stick with a short action.

My thought is to pick up a 7mm-08 with a good action and stock, or a popular action so that I can swap out parts as needed. Does anyone know what it costs to rechamber from a 7mm-08 to a SAUM? Going to be some bolt work involved as well. Anyone done this?

Just buy a factory 7mm rem mag. At a guess the re-chamber and bolt work on the 708 will be $200-$400.

Cheers Stug, Should have added that I'm also considering a .284. That may be the easiest way forward.

Yep 284 would be worth it, shouldn't need any bolt work then, just a re-chamber. I'd guess $200 for that.

Made my Saum on a 7RM action as it is better with more length for the long pills.

Better starting with a factory magnum bolt face, have seen a few questionable bolt face jobs...

Gunworks recently had a post on their Facebook page with information regarding their re-chambering options. From memory @stug is spot on, it was around $150-200 all up I think. You will also need a LA bolt stop and magazine if doing the work to a Tikka T3 (another $150 odd).

Plus magazine work, to ensure reliable feeding. You do not want an occasional repeater!
A good shot at close range beats a 'hit" at a longer range.
