    Recommendation on hearing protection

    Hi,

I'm looking to buy a couple of pairs of ear muffs for range shooting (.22 to .308 generally), I am considering some 3M Peltor's but they can be quite pricey.
Anyone got some recommendation on decent hearing protection that does not cost a fortune, it does not need to be super fancy and I don't need Bluetooth etc..

    Thanks!

    MC

Peters may seem expensive but how much are hearing aids?

Yip thats why I'm looking to buy ear muffs, but I also don't want to spend a lot of $$ to find they are rubbish. Any suggestions on whats good
One of the issues in NZ is there are not a lot of stores that stock a wide range of options that you can try to see what you like

If you want electronic you have to spend real $ to get a proper level of sound reduction.
If you don't want/need electronic it's fairly cheep

Yeah the electronic models I've seen are approx NZD $250 each. I don't need electronic. Any pointers on good models and where to buy them?

Just pop into a NZ safety shop or the like, get someone to let you try on a couple of there grade 5+ options and choose the one that seals around your head the best. Maybe take your rifles stock (not the whole rifle!)with you to make sure the cups don't interfere-i never have a problem with this but enough people do that it's something to consider. Make them give you trade price and you should get something very good for $50

Quite happy with my Howard Leiths and some large munty ones given one year from a sponsor.

But whatever I wear, I *always* double plug with ear plugs and ear muffs. Just got fed up having to yell at all the old farts at the range and I want to hear my grandkids talk to me one day...

Have to agree. My Howard's are really shit with the volume up and quite shit with them turned off.

I have to wear plugs under them. Had a pair that the military use given to me that I thought were really good, but they got misplaced or lifted.

Consider going to a audiologist and having shooters plugs made for you

Can't remember what mine cost - but they are brilliant and you can wear them for a long time and hear people too

    Any audiologist?
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

Some good advice in the posts,grade5 is what I use on the range+a pair that the military ones for hunting off the back of the Ute or mobs of goats.
If in general hunting ear plugs if time allows with a suppressor because most of that is just one shot.
I have industrial deafness and have just started using hearing aids.
My advice is look after you ears, the younger have the music cranked up there cars are lifting of the ground the vibration goes through you if you are to close.
They think they have a exemption from deafness

I would think so - mine were ordered in by Triton
They did the mold locally and it was made somewhere else

They weren't digital or anything - just a perfect fit with a small hole

    They are great to use

Sounds similar to what I use with motorbike touring - constant wind noise is actually really loud and damaging. And constant!
Think it cost me $80, guy made custom plugs for my ears. Based on Kapiti Coast.
Can hear fine with them in, things sound normal, just really really really quiet. Like someone turned the volume down by a lot.
