Hi all, any advice on upgrading the barrel and who is best to do it?

I am keen to lighten but retain the classic look as much as possible

The barrel is stuffed, so needs to be replaced. I'm wondering what the options are in to lighten the stock.

Love to hear thoughts. thanks so much.

I have a Mohawk .222 with a pitted barrel, still shoots ok, but will replace in the future. I’ll probably send it to truflite, and they will profile a new stainless barrel to match original. Some gunsmiths don’t profile barrels.

The later 660 the predecessor to the model 7 was a far better rifle than the 600 with its plastic rib and bent bolt handle.I used one in 222 for a while and even nostalgia would not convince me to buy another. It was ungainly and clunky.

The problem is the plastic trigger guard which warps.
If someone could make a few metal ones the old guns might come out of their cupboards.
I recall the wood was pretty soft and white too. Be interesting to see how theyve fared after 50 years.
The wedge shaped forend was great.
The blast from the .222 deafening …

There are non plastic trigger guard replacements available in the USA, most probably not available in nz though..... https://heritage-arms.com/product/trigger-guard/....

Hugh Bradley of Gun makers nz in Alexandra ,, https://www.gunmakersnz.com/ Pretty certain Hugh does chrome moly barrels and he will profile to your original barrel...
