Rem 700 std to mag bolt face

Anyone out there shooting a Rem 700 action where the boltface has been opened from a std one to mag? Any issues and things to consider?

    Any other alternative perhaps?

Potentially importing a mag rem 700 bolt from PTG?

Fairly straightforward job for a competent smith, been done lots. Feed rails would need to be opened depending on what you were going from/to. I would consider having M16 extractor fitted at the same time over the std Remington extractor.
    Cheers

Already have a Rem 700 LA, but with a std boltface.

Anyone imported a Rem 700 bolt from PTG? Any special requirements to import one?

To be fair it's probably cheaper to get a mag rem 700 than the ptg bolt costs

    Greetings Longbow,
I'm with 7mmwsm above. Sell what you have and buy what you need. Should be plenty of 7mm Rem Mags around with shot out barrels. Likely cheaper and much less hassle.

Just a though the p 14 action (.303) gives you the right head size for belted magnums and the winchester actions are certainly strong enough.

This may well be true, Cost for mine by time courier to and from Gunsmith, PTG Bolt and barrel relieved for M16 Extracter I think was approx $1100
I would not have bothered but was into the gun for far too much money to just scrap it like I should have. In my case the original bolt needed replacing to fix multiple unsuccessful/botched repair attempts by someone who really should know better
Interestingly in case he is reading this since the bolt was replaced I have had zero issues since, so I wonder who's work is was at fault!!
