Thread: Rem Model 7

I was at the local gunshop a few weeks before the lockdown and spotted one in 308.

Love the size and weight of the beast.

A few questions:

Given that they've got a small skinny barrel, how many shots can you fire in a string before the barrel really gets too hot?

What kinda accuracy can you expect out of one, assuming you feed it something it really likes?

Is mounting a suppressor any drama,? looking at the muzzle which is thicker than the rest of the barrel to support the thread for a suppressor, I assume an over barrel one would have to have a thick plastic collar spun up to support the rear of it.

Do they have an aftermarket detachable mag available?

Anything else to know?

I don't have a bad word to speak of them. Barrel does heat up quick but if you wait a couple of minutes between shots you can do a tidy 3 shot group easily. (Real world how many shots do we need?) I've just fitted a dpt over barrel to mine and all it did was improve accuracy. Mines in 260.
The plastic stocks are quite weighty... mines in a stug.




What's not to like?

They are great little shooters. Moa capable easily. No issues with over barrel suppressor. Much the same as any other rifle. Can't answer your question regarding how many shots before they get too hot but with less metal they also cool down faster

There is a good reason they dont come up for sale very often.

I had a look at the thread as recommended above.

Seems Model 7 owners have plenty of reasons to be confident about them.

Have one in 7SAUM and have been pleased with performance, joy to carry on the hill. My only gripe with the design is the ridiculously small rear action screw. One of the trade offs in shrinking the action size. Got be real careful not to strip the hex head when you are torquing up the action screws. May not be such an issue in non magnum calibres.

Not much to add to what the others have said. The barrels are so thin that the only options for threading are 1/2-20, 1/2-28 and 13x1.
Some of them don t always have the straightest barrels and require a bit of attention from the smith to properly fit a suppressor. But those barrels still seems to shoot well. The model 7 is a butt heavy rifle and a suppressor does actually balanced the rifle very well.
They are probably one of the best bush rifle base out of everything else available out there . The synthetic stock is a bit so so, but ken henderson makes some excellent replacement stocks for it.
Magazine options are available through Pacific tool and gauge if you can bother to fill the paperwork , pay the price and be very very patient.

You need one in 17 fireball and one in 350 Remington magnum to have all your bases covered ;-)

Have had a few... @Stag has my 7mm-08. Would do 0.25MOA with 120gn NosBTs (7mm08). A carbon stock transforms them. Add lightweight firing pin and flute bolt they come up very nice. Barrel good for 3 shot groups.

Mine is in.308 with gunworks suppressor. The suppressor helps balance it out nicely. Had trigger lightened and that's about it for my go-to rifle for near 20 years. It is more accurate than anything in my hands has a right to be.
