Remington 700 sticky bolt dry fire

    Hey guys,

My Remington 700 bolt is hard to open after dry firing.

Any ideas what could be causing this issue?

    Cheers

Has the bolt been stripped and cleaned and lubed properly ?

I have stripped the bolt and given it a wipe down, but overall it wasn't to dirty.

What parts of the bolt should I lubricate before a reassemble the bolt?

Firing pin jamming in hole in bolt face, because it moves further forwards with no primer to stop it?

How hard to open? Tried a light lube on the back of the locking lugs and bolt cam surfaces by the shroud?

The bolt feels stiff and almost as if its grinding on the action. I have lubricated the bolt and it feels a bit smoother but still not as smooth as when
I'm opening and closing the bolt without dry firing.

If it won't cycle the way you want it to, bring it back, if it's under warranty.

Remington 700 sticky bolt dry fire

With the bolt closed and decocked there should be a slight bit of play present. Bolt sledges back and forward a touch.

Assuming no gunk in the lug area.

If it’s tough to open then bolt handle timing with angled extractor in rear receiver ring maybe the issue?

Has it been ok up to now or new to you rifle?

so whats it like if you close bolt with trigger pulled....so it does same thing WITHOUT pin dropping with snap....eg it slides gently forward as bolt closes...

no disrespect Huey, I see you're new to the forum, but have you actually fired this rifle? You do realise that opening the bolt cocks the firing pin spring so it'll feel harder than if it hasn't been fired.

Failing that, a dab of grease on the cocking sear might help. I use the tip of a toothpick to get the grease onto the load-bearing area.

If you have just put bases on the action, you may have put the longer screws in the front ring and hitting lugs.

If your a new shooter gun someone who is a bit more experienced to have a look.
