The Saum is the cartridge most rifles are modified to so it gets the blame, it probably has 15 thou of taper which is adequate
Here’s the kicker........
EVERY time a rem action gets “ trued” or tidied up and either bolt locking lugs and/ or action buttresses get a skim then your losing Primary Extraction
I have measured a lot of rem actions and it’s very common to see stock/modified rifles with PE measurements of 20-50 thou when they should be up around 150 thou (40 thou is 1 mm )
So a bolt handle retime is necessary.
The Bolt retime involves The bolts handle being moved forward on the bolt body and silver soldered (Silvalloy 355) again
Secondary extraction is you the owner hauling the bolt backwards.
Primary extraction is extremely important and often overlooked
Google remington bolt timing and primary extraction, -there’s hours of reading material available
The Long and short rem mags are extremely useful for NZ conditions with 150-162g projectiles
