    Remington Woodsmaster 742

Just finished a Load Development on this neat wee rifle this morning

    A remington Woodsmaster 742 in 308

I don't see them very often and they seem an ideal bush machine, this ones best groups at 100yrds with handloads was just on an inch.

Has anyone here used one in the past? Are you still using one or are they safe queens these days........

My Grandad used one in 30-06 on Stewart Island whilst he lived there to great effect. They are something you definitely don't see alot of these days.

Yeah I had one in 308 about 15 years back and after a few misses that in hindsight was probably not the fault of the rifle I flogged it off. Found it quite fiddly in the bush compared to a bolt action

I tried one in 308 years ago, bet the living crap out of me, (I was/am a soft cock )

Got a 243 instead, shot way good enough for bush work, shot a few Deer with it, cool old cheap rifle

An old mate of mine has one he bought way back (70's ) in 308, shot well, no malfunctions ( unless you fill the action with pumice dust of your motorbike wheel) other than that time no problems, I ended up buying it off him and had it for a while then he bought it back and still has it today. Trigger was a bit scratchy and they are a bit heavy otherwise good rifle.

I had a 308 one. Came across 3 deer in a creek and thought I'll have all of these.Shot the first one and the other 2 ran away while I was trying to find the bolt handle.

I saw one advertised last year and damn near bought it, they are a cool rifle. I'm more of a bolt action man but they would be good in the bush on the very rare occasion that I bomb up a few goats, or want to shoot a couple deer.

They arent too bad a rifle but be aware that parts are getting very slim on the ground. I used one for some time until it had a AD and then went to a BAR instead

Had one (short barrelled carbine) in .308, and one in 6mm. Used them a lot on deer and goats. They were superb! Only problem- you had to ensure the first round from the magazine went home properly, which involved releasing the bolt decisively. You had to slam dunk it! Wish I'd never sold them!!
