Remmy 7 vs Savage 16 Actions

Looking at building up a custom rifle and have narrowed it down to a Remmy or Savage.
Particularly Model 7 and Model 16 short actions.

Availability of the Remmy is harder than Savage.

I like the Accutrigger and 3 pos safety of the Savage.
The remmy seems to be easier to get bits for.

Anyone have experience with building a Savage based custom rifle?

Owned both and the Savages are better built IMHO, The floating bolt head doesn't need to be messed around with unlike the Remy

I have both , good stocks are hard to come by for the Savage, I have a few chassis and stocks (savage) if you go that route.
I have two custom Savage I had put together. 6.5 grendel left handed and 6.5 prc right handed.

What route did you go down for the chassis/stocks for the savages?
I have a left hand short action I'm looking to re barrel and throw a new stock on at the moment but stocks are few and far between. In NZ anyway.

A 6.5G lefty sounds awesome. Which Savage did you have built into that? Photos?

    Own a Remington Model 7 in 7mm08, 16" barrel

Stainless '3 hole' action from 1990's

McMillan KS stock made for Remington due to buttpad being Rem branded (indicates the rifle was a custom shop order)

Put a TriggerTech Special M7 trigger in

EGW 20 MOA rail, Spuhr hunting one piece rings and a Leupold Mk4 3.5-10-x40

Weighs f-all, points like a .22 but punches abouve it's weight. Easy to shoot.

    what caliber?

I can understand the rem mod 7
im not personally a fan after owning one and would prefer the m700

    gimp had a beauty of a 223 on a model7

savage actions are a bit ugly (tikka are too in their own way) and if thats the only bit you are keeping its a odd choice
not a fan of the trigger
they tend straight from the factory to shoot bloody well even when they are the budget models in budget stocks

I'm going to build up a 6mm SLR
So just comparing actions if anyone has done a custom build on either action.
From my research its very even between them. Both have their good points and bad points.
So far the Savage is winning for me....

But I might still get a mod7 anyway... because why not lol

Better to go for a Model 700, M7 magbox will be too short I'd imagine. You'd get away with it for 6mm CM but the 51mm case SLR & long pointy things could be a hassle.
    I changed a M7 in 260 to 6.5CM for this reason.

    Cheers for that.
Not going to be using the heavier pills. Prob 105s the max.
They have a sweet spot around 95g so prob just use them.
Its not going to be a sole target rifle so not worried about super duper target pills etc

So far the Savage action is winning from the advice I've received.
They do have a larger mag well as 1 of the pluses.

Where do you get barrels from in NZ for them? Have a 308 weather warrior and considering get a 243 or 6mm creedmoor barrel for it to make it a bit nicer for my partner to get into shooting with. Wouldn’t need to be top of the range barrel, even a standard savage barrel would do the trick.

And does anyone know where to get after market hunting style stocks for them? Got mine filled with epoxy to stiffen it but now is reasonably weighty.
