Something I have wondered about...lots of guys seem to upgrade the Tikka plastic stocks to CF.
Do people see any improvement in performance. My Tikka Rem Mag shoots crazy good groups...but at times I feel like the groups move up and down the paper a bit at longer distances (600 yards).
I guess the same question applies to barrels.
I figure it's all about weight and looks.... Have changed mine to a boyds, and the 308 is currently ia dpt chassis (saves any issues with bedding and looks bloody good). He factory plastic I don't like the feel of and are bloody noisy if you knock then on something
Groups moving up and down a bit at 600 yds are probably more an ammunition velocity consitency issue rather than bedding or stock issues
depends who you buy them off,for me, i have 2 stug stocks, they are not the prettiest cf stocks to look at (sorry stug) but they are light and theyQuote:

It could be changing temperature as I am always shooting late evening...again stock rigidity might have an impact.

Reloading...bipod with rear bag...no vertical drift in a group...groups are effectively fired 1/2hr apart and cooling between shots within the group (and mostly two shot groups to keep things cool).Quote:

Hate to say but a two shot group isnt a group. its just two shots, fired a couple of minutes apart from what you are saying, nothing wrong with that for consistency. But if you include the other previous two shot group, from 1/2 an hr previous then its a big group.
What about trying one 5 shot group shot over the same period of time ?
What you say is valid...I cringed mentioning the group size...but its a pattern that has repeated enough times (on different nights) to be valid (in my mind). But you are right...I need to shoot the big group over time (its very much a barrel cooing thing I do)Quote:

It was extraordinary shooting and I would have had him carry on for a bigger group but cooling the can and people waiting for the range in miserable conditions meant we cut it short.
