    Resto on classic rifle

Not really using my M70 much and as such have been having thoughts about really giving it a birthday and it can be a proper special occasions only rifle. Whilst it is reasonably tidy I wouldn't mind having any little blemishes etc on the stock tidied up, reblue all metal work, remove the front sight and polish the bolt/jeweling.
Is there even any decent gunsmith left that will work on these type of rifles? Cheers

Allan Carr or Dave Ward have the skills to undertake this sort of work, I haven't been in contact with either for some years but I think they are both still working . . .

Tell us more about it Ryan.
    Caliber, model etc.
The cheek piece and extractor give me the impression its more than just a run of the mill model.
    Overkill is still dead.

It's a pre64 270, has obviously had a tickle up as it has a custom stock, jeweled bolt, stipled bolt knob and bolt release and trigger guard floorplate release all of which were not run of the mill. It's very tidy and serviceable and shoots very well I just wouldn't mind getting it "showroom tidy" and sticking it away for special occasions. I'm reluctant to be too rough with it as it is so it's not first out of the safe although I have taken it on a few day hunts and knocked over a few tahr with it

Looks good to me too, I would just use it occasionally as you have done. Lose the sling metal buckle would easily scratch up stock.

It looks good! I would leave it as it is. Refinishing will detract from it.

With a rifle looking that good, I'm sure there's a bit of that happening already

It does need some older glass on it, a smaller scope also would look nicer I feel. The AV 3-10 looks a bit modern and big for it, even a modern z3 3-9x36 or Kahles 2-7x36 would look more at home... anyone want to sell me one?? Should probably put some nice leupold or conetrols on it also but the talleys are just so easy haha
