The business model seems to be, Importer/Agent marks up and flicks on to the Distributor who then marks it up and flicks it on the the Wholesaler who then marks it up and passes it on to the Retailer.
Importer/Agent, Distributor and Wholesaler are all separate companies but owned by the same guy.
Not a bad lurk but goes a long way to explaining why NZ is such a rip off.

Too numerous to mention, in most industries not just firearms.
A classic example would be Fletchers gouging the building industry from the forest to the finished product.
New yuppie term is " Vertical Intergration" instead of kiwi joker term " Rip Off Cunt".

OK. I was hoping for something to substantiate your claim. For example, Gun City is owned by David Tipple and family: https://opencorporates.com/companies/nz/314970

And Beretta NZ Ltd is owned by Martyn For and Beretta Australia PTY LTD in a 40/60 split: https://opencorporates.com/companies/nz/1638372

Just my theory but since it's been published on the internet it must be true.

    Steve & co,

Not quite right there. Only two steps in the equation. NZ Importer/distributor to Retailer. e.g. JP Furley is the Ruger importer & he sells to all the retailers in NZ directly. i.e. no middle man. That's the same for all the gear that is sold in most gun/hunting shops in NZ. Some retail hunting shops are importing directly but that can be a can of worms because of minimum purchase quantities & the old adage that " whatever you buy for your shop, consider it your until it is sold"

A shop can end up with a lot of gear that no one wants!!!!! Great fun this retailing game!!!!
