Rifle hard case - Super Cheap still best value?

    Hi all,

I need to buy a hard case to take a rifle on a domestic flight.
Is the Super Cheap one the still best value for money, or are there better options available now?

I don't think I'll use the hard case too frequently, so don't want to spend a fortune, but also want to buy something that will be reasonably robust.
I see some of the Pelican case aren't too badly priced ($600ish) and there are some super lightweight ones for around $120.

    Cheers

Hard to beat Supercheap. On the heavy side and take up a fair bit of room in a vehicle but with the pluck out foam your gear will be safest it can be. Think I got mine for $130 a few years.

The cheaper light weight ones don’t tend to sandwich your rifle very well most of the time.

For flying, supercheap as a minimum. The baggage hold will end up with things either on it, by it or leaning against it...

Cheers, yeah not so keen on a flimsy plastic one, for the reason you said.
Might try have a look at a SCA one, but if it’s not to crap will give one a go.

SCA cases are good and I have one too but note check the length of your intended firearm - the SCA case can be a bit short

What length barrel is your rifle in that case @McNotty? Looks like it just fits? Cheers

Gidday. Was 20” rifle at the time. Looks like they only do the 1330 mm one now. I can measure my one for you if you want. They’re on special at the moment as well.

Go diagonal if you have to, I have a 1750 Pelican case that fits up to a 26" barreled long action in straight but could go 28" I think on the diagonal. I think that it the same size as the Supercheap one?

Other alternatives are SKB and the Storm cases (Storm are the same outfit as Pelican but with the other name).

Yup, they used to do a shorter version of the case.

The super cheap ones will take a 24 inch barreled tikka with a muzzle brake

Looking at the specs the SCA case is about 10mm longer internally than the Pelican, so probably going to be one of longer cases available.

I think I'll take a punt on the SCA case, $170 on sale is going to be hard to beat for something I likely will use only once or twice a year.

I can't seem to edit my post, but I was mistaken.
The Pelican is a bit longer externally, so I'd imagine will be longer internally also but I think they'd be fairly close.
