Thread: Ring and base identification

99% sure those Conetrol bases are for a BSA Hunter/Regent action.The split base with cap screw clamping provides anti recoil friction required due to the fact that the (early)Hunter action parallel rear receiver bridge didn't have a milled detent to accept a base spigot.BSA latter on did mill an anti recoil detent hence the latter default Parker Hale bases do have a locking spigot.How do I know all this? Just brought one with those very same Conetrols.

@bluebaiter. That would make sense. About 40 years ago I had a BSA Hunter 7 x 57. I've certainly had those bases and rings hanging around for a long time.

Yip the Viscount action ain't got the detent,but the successor Majestic action did from the early 60's onwards

@RugerM77 hmm just grabbed her Royal Highness the Queen from her safe throne to check out those bases.Have noted my pair mounted on this BSA don't have the (rear?) Stepped bottom face .So now retracting my quess.Turns out I'm not a Noah after all.If the brains trust on here can't solve the riddle,then maybe a couple of happy snaps sent to the good ol boys @ Conetrol in Texas might be able to I.D. them
