@blip - I think you are dead right about the earlier Aussie lithgow/Slazenger 22LRs. I grew up using one and they were very accurate shooters. Plenty still around today - reliable efficient little rifles. Apparently made from military grade components which improved standards. Model 12 was made by Lithgow from 1947 - 56ish I think, but often sold under Slazenger name. Common models are the 12 and 55.
I'd have one of these any day for a field worker 22. Got an idea they shared magazines with another make too.. Winchester?
